Update.

Wed Oct 21, 2009, 11:13 PM
My first journal post since '07. Not that anyone much cares, but whatever, I'm doing it anyway.

Hi! Just thought I'd give y'all a little update on things in my life.

I'm still doing theatre. Although my focus over the last many years has been musical theatre, I'm trying to branch out into straight theatre as well. Musical theatre will always be my true love, of course. But some straight work on the side might not be such a bad thing. :)

I've done two professional auditions (neither of which turned up callbacks). So far it's been "Spring Awakening" and "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark." I'm sure I'll look back at this and go "OH MAN! I remember those. Wow that was a long time ago."

I'm currently with Stars Talent Agency in San Francisco, and they're representing me for commercial work, among other things (again, several auditions and nothing yet. Oh, the life of an actor). It's pretty cool to go in on a days notice and tell some guy behind a camera what I like to do in my spare time, even if it's ultimately a bust.

I'm attending community college at the moment working for my AA degree. From there I plan to transfer to a 4-year as a junior and get a BFA in theatre. We'll see how that plays out.

And, of course, on the side I take my photos with the point-and-shoots we have lying around my house. My personal PaS broke a little while ago so I've been using my sisters or my fathers when I need to. I'm saving up for a swanky new Canon 40D (and by saving up I mean wishing I had the money for one). We'll see when that comes in.

And to make the very scarce money I do, I work as a waiter at a local Cabaret theatre. It's pretty cool. Free soda, free shows, and tips. Oh yeah. It's pretty nice.

And other than that, there's not much to tell. It'll probably be another near-3 years before I check in again with a journal, so until then, take care!

No problem my love!

Examples of what I mean when I say there's motion and something to focus on in a picture, rather than blankness.

Notice the use of angles and how much/little of the subject we can see and the amount of space around it.

I understand that. But blankness can be as powerful as busy-ness. For example:

Of course, my image is considerably less contrived and, therefore, less composed, but it's not impossible for a mostly blank image to be very effective, and something intrigues me about "Upwards." I wish I had done more of them so I could really see what works and what doesn't work about it. I have no real reference.

But whatevs.
:iconbgyoshi:
What works is the emphasis of blankness. Look at the composition of that picture, the terrain is level with the border, the person is parallel with the border, the burned in clouds travel upwards. There's focus and defined direction in the image.

Heey. About the 3 variations - I think they all convey different moods - there really isn't a "best" variation of the picture. If you're going for family photo album look pick the regularish or the b/w one, if you're going for artsy the b/w or the cold tinted one. They are all suitable for a whole range of purposes.

btw, nice gallery. :)

Thank you!

I'm glad you think they all stand on their own. I'm not sure what kind of mood brings out the most in the shot yet, you know? But your feedback is greatly appreciated, as is your compliments. :)

Feedback is always my pleasure haha :D

If you want a personal opinion of taste, I'd pick Caleb 04. But yeah, I wish you had a macro lens too :P

Yeah, I was using a friend's camera and it was very spontaneous, so I didn't even think to click it over to the general macro focus until later. I'm kicking myself about it now.
